Speeding stop led to drug conviction

PUNTA GORDA — A Bradenton man was convicted Wednesday on two drug-related charges after a two-day trial.

William Edward Bishoff, 38, was originally arrested in March after being pulled over for speeding,

Bishoff was convicted of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

A Charlotte County deputy pulled over Bishoff on Tamiami Trail after he was recorded speeding in a rented car.

The deputy learned Bishoff had an active warrant out of Sarasota County at the time and was on probation, leading deputies to take him into custody.

Deputies then searched him and his rented car, leading to the discovery of a syringe and several containers that turned out to contain methamphetamine.

His sentencing hearing is set for Nov. 18.
