Thousands of Wyatts Towing consumers will receive checks as part of settlement

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Thousands of people will soon receive restitution checks in the mail after years of illegal towing practices at Wyatts Towing, according to the attorney general.

The checks come after a $1 million settlement between the towing company and Attorney General Phil Weiser where an investigation found illegally collected fees, unlicensed towing and other deceptive business practices from the company, according to the state.

On Thursday, Weiser announced that over 5,000 eligible consumers, who have been identified based on the company’s records, would receive the checks within the next few days and no further action is required.

Weiser said some may only receive one check by mail within the next few days, while others may receive two checks, the second coming in January.

“Though these checks are not enough to make everyone whole who Wyatts harmed, the restitution we were able to secure is relief for those who were forced to pay illegally collected fees, incurred illegal debt, or endured the hassle of having their vehicle unlawfully towed,” Weiser said in a press release.
