DENVER ( KDVR ) — After closing its original and historic location two years ago, the Welton Street Cafe is reopening in its new location on Friday.
The iconic restaurant posted on Facebook that it will open back up for business at its new location at 2883 Welton St.
The restaurant had been a long-time staple in the Five Points community, but the eatery announced in 2022 that it would be closing its doors after posting a GoFundMe after being priced out of the original location.

The cafe said it faced years of challenges that were kicked off by the pandemic.
Welton Street Cafe sat on 27th and Welton Street since 1999 and has been a safe space for the Black community and Black history.
“I think a lot of the things that made Five Points, Five Points, as it relates to African American history and Black history down here are obsolete and are gone. So it’s one of the last symbols that we get to hold on to what it used to be while still trying to preserve its future,” longtime customer Ryan Fontenot said in 2022.
