UK Hits Russia with New Sanctions

Additional Coverage:

Britain imposed significant sanctions on Thursday, targeting both Russia’s military-industrial complex and its activities in Africa.

The sanctions target 56 entities and individuals, including 28 suppliers of military equipment to Russia. Three mercenary groups and 11 individuals linked to the Kremlin were also blacklisted.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that the measures aim to combat the Kremlin’s “corrosive foreign policy” and disrupt Russia’s war machine.

Britain also sanctioned Denis Sergeev, a Russian intelligence agent accused of involvement in the 2018 Skripal poisoning attempt.

The sanctions are part of a broader effort by Western allies to isolate Russia and punish it for its invasion of Ukraine. Despite the sanctions, Russia has sought support from countries like Iran and North Korea, even recruiting soldiers from the latter.
