Louisiana Attorney General says FBI is investigating ‘racist and vile spam texts’

LOUISIANA ( KLFY ) — Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill encourages residents who have received racist spam text messages to contact her office, saying the FBI has been directed to find out who is behind those messages.

According to the Associated Press , the racist text messages were sent to Black men, women and students, including middle schoolers. The messages, sent anonymously, were reported in states including New York, Alabama, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. The messages generally used a similar tone but varied in wording.

On Thursday, Murrill said she has been made aware of the racist messages and has asked the FBI to investigate. Anyone who received one of those messages is asked to contact Murrill’s office at (800) 351-4889.

“I have been made aware of racist and vile spam text messages individuals have received throughout Louisiana. I have directed the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation to fully investigate the origins of these disgusting texts that only intend to divide us,” Murrill said.
