TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An unknown driver is dead after troopers said he crashed off of I-75, causing his vehicle to burst into flames overnight.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver in a Lexus NX300 was traveling northbound on I-75, north of the interchange with US-301 at 2:38 a.m. on Friday.
As he lost control of the car and entered the grassy area separating the mainline from the US-301 ramp, he struck a dual post roadside sign and the concrete footing of an overhead sign for the ramp.
Following the collision, troopers said the vehicle burst into flames.
The driver, who officials have yet to identify, died at the scene of the crash.
