HANFORD, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Two people were arrested after police responded to a report of possible squatters, according to the Hanford Police Department.
Police say on Thursday at around 10 a.m. police responded to a home on the 8000 Block of North 12th Avenue after a property manager arrived to find an unknown vehicle parked in the driveway.
According to police, the manager noticed all of the home’s windows were covered from the inside, found pry marks on the entry door jam, and noticed that all of the door locks had been changed.
Officers say they were eventually able to make contact with two people in the house. They were identified by police as 38-year-old Brandee Phillips of Hanford and 33-year-old Josue Garcia of Fresno.
Phillips advised officers that she had a lease to live in the house, but officers determined that it was not a real lease. Investigators found the suspects had broken into the house and changed the locks.
Both suspects had stolen property from the house. Some of the property was found with them and some located in their vehicle, including several boxes of ammunition, officers say.
