CHICAGO — A man was found guilty Wednesday for shooting and killing a young father during the 2021 Puerto Rican Day celebration. The victim’s girlfriend also died after being inadvertently shot during the incident.
Anthony Lorenzi, 37, was found guilty Wednesday following a bench trial on the charge of second-degree murder.
On the night of June 19, 2021, police responded to the 3200 block of West Division Street on the report of an attack and subsequent shooting following the Puerto Rican Day parade.
City cameras caught the incident and the subsequent shooting of Gyovanny Arzuaga, 24.
It begins with Arzuaga and his girlfriend Yazmin Perez getting dragged out of their vehicle by a group of men. During the struggle Arzuaga accidently shot Perez, police revealed in a press conference after the shooting.
Video shows Lorenzi fire multiple shots in the direction of the couple as the were huddled on the ground and then run away with other members of the group.
Arzuaga was shot in the head and died at the hospital. Perez died days later at the hospital and the couple shared two young children together.
