Onshore flow returns but expect chilly nights and mornings over the weekend

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Santa Ana winds have weakened significantly as Red Flag Warnings expired at 11 a.m. Friday morning.

There is still a slight offshore gradient for the mountain areas while the the coast gets the return of onshore breeze.

Friday and Saturday will be clear, cool and dry with a brief warming trend in our inland valleys over the weekend as a weak ridge of high pressure expands over us.

Saturday daytime highs will top out in the low 70s, mid-to-upper 70s for inland valleys, mid-60s for mountains and upper 70s in the deserts.

With the big wind event behind us, there is still a very dry and cold air mass that will lead to chilly evenings and mornings over the next few days. Overnight temperatures will drop to the 40s for beaches, inland valleys and deserts with mountains bottoming out in the mid-30s.

Early next week points to a low pressure trough quickly moving to inland California and looks to strengthen that onshore flow and bring cooler temperatures.
