The Elizabeth City Rowing Club’s Women’s Under 17 team continues to row away the competition.
The foursome of Emma Mayer, Ella McFadden, Elizabeth Brown and Kiran Rodgers took first place in the Women’s Under 17 quadruple sculls race at last weekend’s Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Mayer and McFadden also took first place in the Women’s Under 17 double sculls race, while Brown and Rodgers finished second.
Carol Terryberry, the team’s coach, described the team’s wins at the regatta as “a significant achievement” for the Elizabeth City Rowing Club.
“The team’s hard work and commitment shone through as they claimed the title in a highly competitive field,” she said.
According to Terryberry, the team bested 41 other boats in the Women’s Under 17 quadruple sculls race, and would have come in second out of 84 boats if both the Women’s Under 17 and Women’s Under 19 races were combined.
Mayer and McFadden bested 39 other boats in the Women’s Under 17 double sculls race, including their teammates, Brown and Rodgers. Remarkably, Mayer and McFadden’s finishing time also would have won the Women’s Under 19 race, while Brown and Rodgers would have come in sixth.
