ANKENY, Iowa — One person is dead and another seriously injured following a wrong-way crash involving multiple vehicles on I-35 in Ankeny Thursday.
It happened just after 5:00 p.m. in the southbound interstate lanes at mile marker 88, near Corporate Woods Drive, according to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The report said a Chevy Impala driven by 91-year-old Paul Jacques of Burnsville, Minnesota was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-35 when it struck a Toyota Highlander driven by 78-year-old Hubert Morris of Ankeny. Morris’s SUV then went airborne and was hit by a Toyota Sequoia that was unable to avoid the collision.
Before the initial collision, the report said a driver in a Saturn Vue took evasive action and swerved out of Jacques’ way but hit the concrete barrier.
The ISP said Jacques was transported to Mercy Hospital. He died of injuries received in the crash.
Morris was transported to Methodist Hospital.
