Coroner identifies man who died after crashing into tree in Palm Springs

The Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau identified the man who died on Friday after his car crashed into a tree near Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs police received reports of the collision in the 1800 block of Golf Club Drive, also referred to as Lawrence Crossley Road, around 3 p.m. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and determined that Erik Schott, 50, of Los Angeles, was the only one inside the car.

Schott was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

The Palm Springs Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the accident and do not know yet what caused it.
