Ohio voters sent the state’s Democratic Party and its allies into the wilderness Tuesday, unseating Sen. Sherrod Brown , Democrats’ last non-judicial statewide officeholder; vetoing Issue 1 , to reform how Ohio draws legislative districts; and tightening the GOP’s Vise-Grip hold on Ohio’s Supreme Court .
That the GOP presidential nominee, former President Donald Trump , carried Ohio wasn’t a surprise; Vice President Kamala Harris obviously saw that Ohio, which Trump carried in 2016 and 2020, wasn’t winnable.
Voters replaced Mansfield-born Brown (first elected in 2006) with GOP challenger Bernie Moreno , a successful entrepreneur who, as a child, came to the United States from Colombia with his family.
The Democrats need a top-to-bottom shakeup
Issue 1 was defeated by its complexity but largely because of deceptive double-talk crowbarred into Issue 1’s ballot wording by Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose, of Upper Arlington, and two confederates. And state Supreme Court’s Republicans refused to block LaRose’s deception .
