The Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t play on Saturday night, but they were still able to break the internet thanks to reserve guard Daishen Nix.
Nix made the trip down I-35 to play for the Timberwolves G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves, and put on a show, dropping 45 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out eight assists in a 121-118 overtime win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Saturday night.
Nix went nuclear from the floor, knocking down 14-of-29 shots in the win, but he was also involved in other ways, including the game-winning steal and assist on Trevor Keels’s walk-off bucket in overtime.
(NBA G-League overtime rules set a target score for teams as the first to score seven points wins the game.)
Nix’s performance may be surprising to Timberwolves fans but not when you consider his backstory. The No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2020, Nix decommitted from UCLA to play with the G-League Ignite team coming out of high school to prepare for the NBA Draft.
