PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — An apartment fire caused by an electric motorcycle battery displaced nine people Thursday evening, authorities said.
Just after 7:30 p.m., crews from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Lake Oswego Fire responded to an apartment building in the 6100 block of Southwest Bonita Road on reports that a fire in a lower unit was spreading to the unit above.

On arrival, officials say crews found flames in the lower unit, as well as flames and smoke coming out of two other units. The fire had also spread to the building’s attic space.
Officials said no residents were injured, but one firefighter was taken to the hospital and has since been released.
Fire officials say they later found that an electric motorcycle in the lower unit “had been popping and smoking from the battery pack.” The battery eventually caught fire, causing the blaze.
Several units had smoke and water damage due to the fire. As a result, nine people were displaced.
