Arenas sees OKC as the NBA’s best team for the foreseeable future. The Oklahoma City Thunder have gradually become the best team in the Western Conference over the past few years. They went from being the bottom-dwellers in the West standings to the front-runners due to their faith in the youth carrying them back to title contention.
That has paid off because Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Williams have become three of the best players in the league. This focus on youth carrying the Thunder is reminiscent of the organization’s rise in 2012 when they made it to the NBA Finals with a young core of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden.
Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas believes this team is even better than that 2012 squad, which is extremely high praise for the current team.
“This is a better team than the 2012 team. 2012 had better players, this is a better team. This was young James (Harden), trying to Euro, trying to get all those fouls. You don’t have those guys who will be making mistakes like that,” Arenas said on his Gil’s Arena show.
