I imagine a lot of Florida residents are familiar with the black bear of Florida. Maybe they’ve encountered one in person or heard of friends’ or neighbors’ sightings.
I, however, never contemplated bears in our state. My arrival in 2010 was met with warnings or insights into many different and sometimes dangerous native species. Not one person, ever, revealed any information to me regarding bears.
Florida resident Krista Greener was ready to pick her kids up from school last week. She didn’t make it past the front door when she saw what was in front of it. The woman in Naples captured a video of a Florida black bear, in a standoff with her dog, and posted her excitement on social media.
Her caption read, “POV: You were just about to go pick up the kids when you see this at the front door!”
The bear looked around, stared down the dog, and strode away when the dog began to bark. Not ready to give up on his quest, the bear went around the house to the patio door, seemingly looking for entry, sniffed around the grill, and eventually moved on.
