The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a home invasion murder that occurred early Sunday morning at around 3:45 a.m. in the Vero Beach Highlands neighborhood at the 600 block of 23rd Place Southwest.
WPTV Reporter Romelo Styles spoke to Charlie Baker who says his mother, Amanda Baker, and his daughter, Shelby Lynn Baker, were the victims who tragically lost their lives in this incident.
“My daughter was just 19. She hadn’t even begun to truly experience life,” Baker said. “She was pregnant with our granddaughter, Amina.”
Sheriff Eric Flowers asked that any member of the public with information to speak forward.
“I can tell you that the residence involved is one we are very familiar with,” Flowers said. “It’s one that we’ve been to numerous times so far this year. We’re familiar with a couple of the residents inside the house, and I can tell you that we are in the midst of an active homicide investigation.”
While authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities, efforts to reach other family members have been unsuccessful. Baker reminisced about the joy his mother felt when she became a grandmother.
