HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaii election officials still have thousands of ballots pending acceptance for counting, because they have mismatched or missing signatures on the return envelopes.

There are about 2,500 uncounted ballots with signature issues on Oahu, and at last tally, 75 of those were for the District 39 House race where Elijah Pierick leads Corey Rosenlee by 20 votes.
There are about 1,000 left on Maui, and it’s not yet known how many are from the South Maui County Council district where Tom Cook leads Kelly King by 117 votes.
Dist. 39 recount is done, cured votes could make a difference
Kauai had around 170 to cure as of the last count, and the Big Island had over 500.
The signature has to match either your driver’s license or state ID, or your voter registration form. Clerks told KHON2 that about two-thirds of the time the problem is they’re un-signed.
All county clerks said they’ve reached out to affected voters with letters, and some counties even follow up with calls and emails if they have contact information. But KHON2 has heard from voters who said their ballot tracker revealed a problem and they were never told.
