Taco Central, the latest eatery for longtime restauranteur Javier Robles, is a unique melding of modern and traditional.
The modern comes from the decor — from fun sombreros and aguas frescas jugs hanging from the ceiling to artful walls with rows of wooden spoons — and a cute robot who rolls around with a digital smile and your tempting plate of tacos.
The traditional comes straight from the kitchen in delectable, homemade style Mexican food from caldo de res and the daily special to any of a variety of tacos, flautas and chile rellenos.
Robles, who opened the restaurant at 12320 Eastlake Blvd. Suite 103, four months ago, said he thought the booming Horizon City area would be ideal for his latest business. He has owned a catering business, Eastend Catering Co., for 25 years and has also had a small taqueria type business, also named Taco Central, at 4001 N. Piedras St. for the last three years.
“We’re very thankful for the community and all the support we’ve received. We’ve got all sorts of police officers, sheriffs, the mayor, Border Patrol, CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) that frequent us on a regular basis and are part of this community,” he said.
