The search for a man suspected of fatally shooting a Yorktown woman Saturday night ended in the Bronx when he shot himself as police pursued him, authorities said.
Salvatore Ciniglio, 51, later died in a hospital from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The manhunt began shortly after town police responded to a domestic violence report Saturday night at the Coach ‘N Four apartment complex on East Main Street in Yorktown’s Jefferson Valley and found the 63-year-old victim, Geraldine Krecmer, lying on the walkway with a gunshot wound. Ciniglio apparently confronted her there that night when she returned home.
Authorities said Ciniglio had a troubled relationship with Krecmer’s daughter, with whom he shared a child.
Police issued a shelter-in-place warning to town residents late Saturday night after identifying Ciniglio as the suspect. Within two hours of the shooting, NYPD officers in the Bronx observed the car Ciniglio was believed to be driving and pursued it. Before they could confront him, he shot himself, authorities said.
