A Lawrence Park Township man told township police a 3-month-old boy taken to the hospital with a head injury in late August had fallen from his arms and landed on the floor, according to investigators.
But a physician at a Pittsburgh hospital and medical records revealed more serious injuries than what the child would have suffered accidentally, according to information in a criminal complaint filed last week.
The child’s father, 32-year-old Curtis R. Finn, is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 27 for his preliminary hearing following his arraignment Nov. 5 on felony counts of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children and misdemeanor counts of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Finn was released on unsecured bond following his arraignment, according to court records. He could not be reached for comment.
According to information in the criminal complaint against Finn, Lawrence Park police learned of the 3-month-old’s injuries when an official with the Erie County Office of Children and Youth contacted them on Aug. 23 and reported a minor child with a traumatic injury was at UPMC Hamot. The child was later flown to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC for emergency surgery, the investigating officer wrote in the complaint’s affidavit of probable cause.
