SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego police are investigating after a man in a wheelchair was fatally struck by a car while he was crossing the street in Kearny Mesa Sunday night.
The crash occurred just after 5:30 p.m. in the area of 7600 Ronson Rd. The pedestrian had been crossing Ronson Road from the south to the north when he was hit by an eastbound sedan, according to SDPD.
The unidentified man was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment to severe injuries sustained in the collision. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The driver of the sedan, a 58-year-old man, was uninjured. According to SDPD, he remained at the scene following the crash.
SDPD’s Traffic Division responded to the scene of the crash to investigate. Further details about what led up to the collision remain unknown at this time. However, alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the collision.
