Six months after its grand opening in May, Goshen Valley Foundation’s renovated Family Resource Center in Canton is fully engaged with the communities around it, providing counseling, family support, crisis assistance, mental health services and a range of other resources for children, parents and anyone who seeks the agency’s help.
“We want families to know we’re here for them,” says Dana Zehner, coordinator of the FRC, located at 230 Marietta Highway. The FRC’s mission is to deliver the services of Goshen Therapeutic Services which was established in 2019.
Inside the clean, well-lighted 6,500 square foot facility are rooms for individual and family counseling, play therapy, art therapy, supervised visitation, a small food pantry, a large group meeting space and offices for staff and case management.
There’s also living space for Rupert, a goldendoodle undergoing training to prepare him to serve as a therapy dog to work with families at the FRC.
Outside the building is a fenced children’s playground, and in the parking lot is a shelter where children from the nearby Northwood Apartments can wait for and be dropped off by their school bus.
