Rising like the phoenix: House Park Bar-B-Q back in business after 2020 fire

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin’s House Park Bar-B-Que has made a comeback after nearly four years and is back in business as of Monday.

The restaurant burned down in 2020. The inside was destroyed, but it only sustained minimal damage. The city’s oldest pit is now rising like a phoenix from the ashes and ready to open its doors.

The owner of the restaurant, Matt Sullivan, said the family, unity and culture of Austin is what has kept his business going for more than 80 years. He told KXAN last month that when the fire happened he made a promise to his customers to rebuild the iconic spot.
