Northwest Louisiana Blue Star Mothers support each other and their veterans

WEST MONROE, La. ( KTVE / KARD )–November 11, is Veteran’s Day, a day to honor those who serve in the military.  NBC 10’s Joel Massey has more on a group that honors veteran’s year round.

The Northeast Louisiana Blue Star Mothers is a group that support one another as well as their children who have chosen to serve in the armed forces.  I spoke with the president of that organization about what today means to them.

“Veterans day is a day to celebrate.  You can say happy Veterans Day, not so much happy Memorial Day.  That’s not a happy day it just is Memorial Day, but we want to thank all our veterans for their service today and if you get an opportunity to do that in person please do.”

Jayme Watson is the President of the Northeast Louisiana Blue Star Mothers and she emphasizes just how much it means to support veterans.

“It’s just important to us to remind the public when you are out and you see a soldier to give them honor especially on Veterans Day.”

Both of Watson’s sons served in the Navy and says it was hard when her youngest signed up because she did not have a support group at the time.
