OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – The Oklahoma National Guard honored our veterans at its annual ceremony Monday morning.
“We often hear the term freedom isn’t free and it rings true when we consider the sacrifices our veterans have made,” said Brig. Gen. Robert Walter, the Assistant Adjutant General for the Oklahoma Army National Guard. “Behind every uniform there is a person… And sometimes a friend that did not return home.”
Dozens attended Monday’s ceremony.
“We honor the veterans of not just the Oklahoma National Guard, but also of all services Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and all the branches, the Coast Guard as well,” said Ted Hibbard, the Deputy Director at the Oklahoma National Guard Museum. “I don’t think we have a grasp of the sacrifice these people have made, not just the veterans, but their families as well.”
The event included a massing of the colors, a performance from the 145th Army Band and keynote speaker Brig. Gen. Walter.
