Update Monday 5:45 p.m.
Interstate 80 westbound reopened Monday evening after an hourslong closure.
I-80 westbound opened just after 5 p.m., according to Caltrans’ road information site .
The state agency reported the road being closed just after 2 p.m. at the Nevada-California border amid multiple spinouts on the Donner Summit and a winter storm system moving across the Sierra Nevada.
Chain control restrictions were also removed on I-80 westbound just west of Truckee. Eastbound lanes still had a requirement for all trucks.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday for Truckee and other parts of the Sierra.
Snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches was expected, Reno NWS said.
“Plan on slippery road conditions for the afternoon and evening commute across area passes, including Donner, Echo, Ebbetts, Carson and Mt Rose. Strong gusty winds and snow will reduce visibility to less than a half-mile at times,” the advisory said.
