Winter Snows: Hazardous Conditions in 5 States

The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) has issued snow warnings for Utah, Washington, Oregon, California, and Nevada over the coming days. In Utah, warnings are in place for the Wasatch Mountains and various areas with snowfall forecasted between four and 10 inches. Hazardous driving conditions are expected, especially along mountain routes and I-80 through Parleys Canyon.

In Washington, snow warnings are for elevations above 4,000 feet with snowfall up to eight inches and wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour. Hazardous travel conditions are anticipated across various passes and backcountry areas.

In Oregon, warnings affect the southern Cascade-Siskiyou Mountains with between eight and 16 inches of snow expected above 5,000 feet. Travel may be very difficult with gusty winds potentially causing tree branch hazards.

In California, snow is expected above 6,500 feet with total snow accumulation between two and eight inches and wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour. Slippery road conditions and chain controls are likely, with the potential for travel delays.
