Houston mourns the loss of longest-serving female police officer

HOUSTON, Texas – Funeral services are being held today for Senior Police Officer Calamity “C.J.” Elliott Barnes, who is believed to be the longest-serving female officer in Houston Police Department history. Barnes, who served the city for nearly 44 years before retiring in 2023, passed away at the age of 71.The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. at Fallbrook Church, located at 12512 Walters Road. “CJ,” as she was affectionately known, dedicated her life to protecting and serving the residents of Houston, according to the Houston Police Department. The department expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with Officer Barnes’ family and loved ones. May she rest in peace.”
