MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The city of Myrtle Beach on Monday hosted its annual Veterans Day Program at Robert H. Reed Recreation Center in The Market Common as many communities along the Grand Strand honored our troops, both past and present.
The ceremony was presented by the Military Appreciation Committee, honoring those who sacrificed their life. The presentation, national anthem, and pledge of allegiance started off the program.
Following those, Capt. Adrian Sawczuk a U.S. Army Veteran, gave the Veterans Day Address.
“Upon commission, I served in active duty as an artillery and then a signal officer with the Two Thirds Artiller, ‘Gunners,’ part of the 3rd Army Division,” he said. “It was an experience both challenging and humbling, especially during operation Desert Storm.”
Sawczuk served from 1990 to 1998 and earned a bronze Star for his contributions. During the ceremony, he reminded those of our country’s motto, ‘E Pluribus Unum,’ meaning out of many, one.
“In those moments of intense duty, you came to rely on the people next to you, in ways words can hardly capture,” he said. “Working together united for a common cause, you learn to trust, to adapt, to overcome, and to lead. The bonds forged in those sands are ones I will carry with me forever, ‘E Pluribus Unum.’”
