SPOKANE, Wash. — Veterans, their families and supporters gathered for a special Veterans Day ceremony in Spokane on Monday Morning.
The Washington State Fallen Heroes Project , a nonprofit that honors soldiers who have died, hosted the event at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena to remember and thank those who have served.
“Our mission is to honor and remember the fallen, to support the families that are left behind and to do things like this that engage our communities,” said Keirsten Lyons, Director of WA State Fallen Heroes.
During the event, Navy veteran, David Baird, was honored for his service with a congressional record by Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
Men and women from all branches of the military were honored during the event.
“‘Thank you for your service,’ people say. I look back and say, ‘No, no. Thank you for giving me the honor and the privilege to serve,'” said Air Force veteran, Olaf Holm.
Lyons said events like Monday morning’s are important in helping create community amongst veterans and their families.
