‘Team Rubicon’ helps 90-year-old Richmond County veteran on Veterans Day

HEPHZIBAH, Ga. (WJBF) – Team Rubicon, a veteran-based nonprofit, is helping our community clean up after Hurricane Helene on this Veterans Day.

The organization has had boots on the ground in the Augusta area since shortly after the storm hit. On Monday, it helped out a 90-year-old veteran in Hephzibah who needed it greatly.

While Edward Skinner was at a doctor’s appointment, his daughter, Tina Spivey, organized Team Rubicon to remove fallen trees from his property.

“I said my dad needs some help, he’s a ninety-ish, close to ninety-year-old veteran,” Spivey said. “He got out and cut a little tree in the front yard and his hand was just purple. So it scared me and I told him to ‘stop daddy, don’t cut anymore and we’ll get ya help.’”

The help was well received.

“He’s very happy, he’s excited. He called me when I first told him that I had him on the list,” Spivey said. “He called me like three times before they ever called me, ‘you think they’re coming out today?’”

For Spivey, it means the world the organization is giving back to her dad who served more than 20 years in the Army.
