OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — For the 12th year, Owensboro’s Old Hickory BBQ and Glenn’s Funeral Home filled the stomachs of over 400 veterans for Veterans’ Day. At 11 a.m., cars lined the parking lot to make their choice of mutton or pork sandwiches. Each meal also came with chips, cookies and a drink.
In less than 30 minutes, nearly 300 meals were given out.

West Daviess County Commissioner Chris Castlen and Valor Christian Academy students volunteered to help.
One veteran says its his 3rd year coming out, and he looks forward to it every year.
“Being able to see the Country give back, even though it’s a meal…that’s one of the most important parts of the day. Some veterans don’t even get that. There’s a lot of homeless veterans…the suicide rate. As far as them doing this for us veterans, this is beautiful,” says Darrick Ervin, a Marine Corps Veteran.
The Daviess County Animal Shelter also brought a few dogs. Adoptions are free for veterans through Nov. 13.
