Penn State York, NAACP condemn racist rant attributed to York restaurant owner

A social media video that identifies the Paddock on Market restaurant owner Jonathan Spanos shouting racist language has been condemned by the York NAACP and Penn State York, where Spanos serves on the advisory board.

An account on X, formerly Twitter, by the name of YorkpaRacist posted the video Sunday afternoon that shows an exchange in the middle of a street in a residential neighborhood.

The video shows the man identified as Spanos using the n-word multiple times and saying “I am a racist.”

The X post alleges that it is Spanos. Attempts to reach Spanos have been unsuccessful.

The Paddock on Market is closed on Mondays. No one answered the door, and a woman who was using a side entrance told two reporters to “get lost.”

A family spokesperson who declined to provide a name said in a phone call that it was a family matter that they were trying to resolve.

A man who said he had direct knowledge of the incident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the video was recorded in mid-October. The video was posted to social media over the weekend.
