Heavy rain drenches Northern California; Showers forecast to linger through afternoon, evening

Northern California is getting a welcome drenching today as a cold front sweeps through, delivering much-needed rain from the North Bay down through Monterey Bay. The rain began with light pre-frontal showers early this morning, and the main rain band has since reached the San Francisco Bay, expected to continue south and east into the afternoon.

Showers behind the cold front may linger into the night, with thunderstorm chances expected to be limited. This rain will bring temporary relief to a region in need of moisture, particularly in higher-elevation areas where upslope winds are enhancing rainfall totals.

Temperatures will cool as conditions settle down on Tuesday, but residents should prepare for more rain later this week. Cooler overnight lows and the next round of showers are in the forecast, keeping umbrellas and rain gear in demand.
