Man arrested after weekend hit-and-run, police chase, crash in Lubbock

A 27-year-old man remained jailed Monday, charged with evading in a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated and unlawful carry of a weapon, following a hit-and-run and officer-involved pursuit Saturday night in central Lubbock.Lubbock police were called to the 200 block of Avenue Q, just after 9 p.m. Saturday for a report of a collision involving a passenger car and a pick-up truck, with the passenger car having fled the scene, according to a statement from police. A short time later, officers located the passenger car, with the driver, Michael Salas-Vicuna, in the 1700 block of Erskine Street. Police attempted to make a traffic stop.However, Salas-Vicuna fled, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit. While continuing to flee, the passenger car struck a fence at a business in the 700 block of Erskine Street, along with five other vehicles and a building.Salas-Vicuna was arrested and, having suffered moderate injuries, was taken to University Medical Center via ambulance. After he was treated, he was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center without incident. His combined bond was set at $10,500.The investigation is ongoing.
