Citizens Bank announces three Pennsylvania branch closures

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WHTM) — According to a WARN notice filed with the Department of Labor & Industry, one of the nation’s oldest and largest financial institutions, Citizens Bank, will soon be closing three banking locations in the Philadelphia area.

According to a spokesperson with Citizens Bank, these closures were part of an ongoing effort to modernize its branch network and re-position its branches as places for customers to receive financial advice.

The Rhode Island-based bank says the three perspective closures are scheduled to take place early next year at the following locations:

  1. 2497 Aramingo Avenue, Suite 2 (January 25, 2025 closure)
  2. 8345 Ridge Avenue (January 22, 2025 closure)
  3. 2101-41 Cottman Avenue (February 12, 2025 closure)

Citizens Bank’s full statement regarding the closures reads:

We’ve been on a journey at Citizens to evolve how our customers bank with us. We continually evaluate and adjust our branch strategy across our network as part of our ongoing effort to modernize our branch network and re-position our branches as places for customers to receive financial advice.

Citizens plans to close an in-store branch at The Richmond Shops IGA located at 2497 Aramingo Avenue, Philadelphia on January 25, 2025. We look forward to continuing to serve customers through several nearby full-service branches less than three miles away: Fishtown (1.1 miles), Port Richmond (2 miles), Progress Plaza (2.6 miles), Lehigh Avenue (2.6 miles), Old City (2.8 miles), 726 Market Street (2.9 miles), 15 th and Spring Garden (2.9 miles), and Arch Street (3 miles) in addition to our online and mobile banking platforms.

The Andorra branch located at 8345 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, is currently scheduled to close on January 22, 2025. Customers can continue to access Citizens’ services at nearby full-service branches less than three miles away: Roxborough Main (2.5 miles) and Chestnut Hill (2.8 miles) in addition to our online and mobile banking platforms.

The in-store branch at ACME Markets located at 2101-41 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, is currently scheduled to close on February 12, 2025. This branch will be converting to a Citizens Virtual Assistant Experience powered by an interactive teller machine. This will allow our customers to continue to access our services and speak to a live agent through the ITM. Additionally, customers can continue to access Citizens’ services at nearby full-service branches less than 3 miles away: Cottman (0.6 miles), Castor Avenue (1.2 miles), Mayfair-Teesdale (1.8 miles), Robbins (2.3 miles), and Boulevard (2.8 miles) in addition to our online and mobile banking platforms.
