KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — An East Tennessee couple is working to help firefighters who have been diagnosed with cancer. While there is more and more information about preventing cancer for first responders, they believe more needs to be done to help once the battle begins.
Kelley and Brent Seymour have a binder full of information and a lot of personal experiences they believe could help firefighters with cancer.

Brent, a firefighter for 30 years, was diagnosed with cancer in 2022. Brent said he “noticed a knot under my arm one morning while I was getting ready for work.“
“He said it’s not really bothering me,” Kelley explained. “I said you still got to get it checked out. Cause it can take off then it could be too late.”
It’s a good thing she insisted. They learned shortly afterwards it was stage three synovial sarcoma.
Kelley, a nurse with 29 years of experience, became Brent’s advocate through the process by doing research and asking a lot of questions.
