Truck hauling Thanksgiving turkeys crashes and rolls in Dakota County

Northfield Boulevard between Hampton and Hastings in the south metro was closed for hours after a semi-truck hauling turkeys for Thanksgiving rolled over Monday morning in Dakota County.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook about a single-vehicle rollover on Northfield Boulevard at around 1 a.m. after the driver swerved to avoid an animal on the road.

According to police, the semi-truck was hauling “Thanksgiving” turkeys. The big rig rolled into the ditch and damaged a power pole.

The driver was uninjured, and Dakota Electric was called to address a damaged power line.

The intersection of Northfield Blvd. at 190th and Hogan Avenue near Vermillion was blocked off for the next few hours before reopening around 4 a.m. Monday.

The conditions of the driver and the turkeys are unknown now.
