Nearly 200 affordable rentals approved in Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Two new projects promising nearly 200 new, affordable, apartments, as well as a third project to preserve 101 apartments for low-income seniors have been approved by local officials.

According to the City of Greenville, the new developments, known as Southside Senior I/East, and The Alliance, will be located at West Washington and South Hudson Streets, and Laurens Road and Ackley Drive, respectively.

The projects are now considered “fully funded,” the city said, thanks to Low-Income Housing Tax Credits given to developers to help cover the costs of construction.

Southside Senior I/East is expected to have 93 new units specifically for senior citizens living in the 20- to 60-percent area median income range. Work on the project is expected to begin in January.

The Alliance will feature 100 rental units, also serving the 20 – 60-percent area median income range. The development will also include new business developments along Laurens Road. Work on the project is expected to begin in spring 2025.
