CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — Veterans, students, and staff gathered Monday for a veteran school walk-through and staff speeches before veterans made their way to be seated for an academy Veterans Day luncheon.
Principal, Dr. Andrea Pridgen, said it was an honor to be able to host local veterans this Veterans Day with a meal made by the culinary students.
“We’re here today to honor our heroes, to remember their achievements, their courage and their dedication, and to say thank you for your sacrifices,” she said.
The luncheon students served various pasta dishes with Veterans Day-themed desserts including red, white, and blue sprinkled cannoli as well as festive icing piped cookies. Vietnam Army veteran Jean McCullough said she was excited to be invited back for the Academy’s third Veteran’s Day luncheon.
“I’m so glad I’ve been invited every year. I love the students here. They are so kind and helpful,” she said. “The love I felt, the love from everybody, especially the students who were clapping and, you know, yelling for us. I felt the love.”
