New Orleans businesses attacked in string of late-night attempted burglaries

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Businesses on Magazine Street are boarded up after a string of attempted burglaries over the weekend.

Surveillance video captured by Slim Goodies Diner shows a man walking down the street, smashing windows with a crow bar repeatedly.

“He took the crowbar and proceeded to smash one of the smaller doors, and then completely broke out the larger door and shattered the glass through, kicked the glass in and kept walking down the street,” owner Deborah Schumacher said.

Her business was one of several targeted by the late-night attacks. Next door, retail stores like Hemline and Nola couture were also vandalized.

Schumacher says the attacks happened around 1 a.m.

Down the road, surveillance video shows a man breaking into the Tell Me Bar.

“It’s been a rough summer. I don’t think there’s a small business in the city of New Orleans that hasn’t suffered this year. Anyone doing anything to your business, whether you’re a small business or a large business right now, it makes it a lot harder,” Schumacher said.
