A local business owner is giving back to one lucky veteran in what’s become an annual show of respect.
Angelo’s Roofing was busy at work on Monday, putting on a new roof for a local combat veteran.

This year’s recipient was George Smilo, who was a combat infantry rifleman on the front lines in the Korean War.
The roof itself only takes a few days to finish, but it will keep Smilo safe for years to come.

“Our veterans show us through their actions how they give back to our country and this is just a way that we can raise awareness for all of us as a small way to give back to somebody with a free roof,” said Andy Vinca, owner of Angelo’s Roofing.
“You can’t put it into words. I’m really happy,” said Smilo. “It was quite a surprise that somebody would do this for me.”
Vinca said a roof like this one normally costs around $15,000 to $20,000, but he hopes other businesses do similar acts for our local veterans as well.
