Sarasota chef to open New Orleans-inspired restaurant in Southside Village

After nearly a decade at a popular Sarasota restaurant , a chef will soon open his own eatery in the same neighborhood, inspired by his past home of New Orleans.

Lucky 8 Luncheonette hopes to open sometime this month at 1812 S. Osprey Ave. in Sarasota’s Southside Village, said chef/owner Mark Majorie, who served as executive chef at the nearby Veronica Fish and Oyster since it opened in 2016 until earlier this year. Edward Zaki, owner of downtown Sarasota’s 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen & Cocktails, who is also a partner at fellow Southside Village restaurant Adeline (formerly known as Meliora) , will serve as a partner at Lucky 8 as well.

Before moving to Sarasota to help open Veronica, Majorie lived in New Orleans, where he worked as chef de cuisine at The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, among other jobs. Lucky 8 will pay homage to New Orleans and its cuisine, but — as the Luncheonette in its name suggests — will be a more casual, sandwich shop-esque spot.
