Nonprofit pays off mortgage of Virginia firefighter who died in Sterling house explosion

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — This Veterans Day, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced that it delivered 40 mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families, including to the family of Virginia volunteer firefighter Trevor Brown.

Brown, 45, was a member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company. He died while responding to a gas leak that prompted an explosion at a home in the 300 block of Silver Ridge Drive on Feb. 16. The leak involved a 500-gallon underground propane tank that had been uncontained.

The explosion seriously injured 11 other first responders, injured two others and left around $2.5 million in damages.

As a result of the explosion, officials said on Oct. 22 that Roger Bentley, a former employee of Southern States Cooperative, Inc. – Leesburg – Fairfax Petroleum Service’s (Souther States) faced charges .
