VBFD responds to house fire on Gideon Rd.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) responded to a house fire in the Red Mill area of the city Monday night.

According to officials, crews were dispatched to the 900 block of Gideon Road just before 7:40 p.m. for reports of a residential structure fire.

Crews arrived to the scene and found heavy smoke coming from a two-story house. The residents of were able to evacuate the home prior to crews arriving at the scene.

Two dogs and one cat were accounted for and given oxygen as a precaution. An additional cat was later found in the home and is expected to be okay.

The fire was contained to the kitchen and considered under control just after 8 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The cause remains under investigation.
