Gold Star Mothers host wreath laying ceremony at WWI monument

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The city of Albany recognized those who served as well as their families on Veterans Day . American Gold Star Mothers hosted a wreath laying ceremony Monday morning at the Our Lady of Peace World War I monument.

The monument is now more than 100 years old. Local veterans have worked tirelessly to restore it, ensuring the sacrifices of local military service members are not forgotten.

“A place where we are able to teach the future generations of the sacrifices that were made of the true cost of conflict and war,” Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said.

The monument is located in Memorial Grove at the corner of New Scotland and South Lake Avenues.
