Tragic Car Ramming in China

In a horrific incident in southern China, a 62-year-old man rammed his car into a sports center, killing 35 people and injuring 43. The incident occurred on the eve of a major aviation exhibition in the city of Zhuhai.

The driver, identified only by his surname Fan, was detained at the scene. He had knife wounds on his neck and is receiving medical care.

According to police, Fan’s motive appears to be dissatisfaction with the financial settlement of his divorce. The incident has been heavily censored due to its timing and location.

One hospital reported receiving over 20 injured people, while other hospitals declined to provide numbers.

Videos circulating on social media show victims lying injured on the ground. CPR was being performed on at least one person.

President Xi Jinping has called for the driver to be punished under Chinese law. The sports center has been closed indefinitely.

China has experienced several similar attacks in recent years. In October, a man attacked children at a school in Beijing, injuring five. In September, three people were killed in a knife attack at a Shanghai supermarket.
