Texas Man Sentenced for Murder Identified by Family Pet

A Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his cousin, Mandy Rose Reynolds. Reynolds’ remains were found burned in a storage container in McLennan County in April 2023.

A white dog named Titan, found at the scene, played a crucial role in identifying the victim. The dog’s microchip revealed Reynolds’ ownership, leading police to suspect her body had been found.

The suspect, Derek Daigneault, was arrested two days later after a high-speed chase in Reynolds’ car. Security footage showed Daigneault purchasing the storage container and Reynolds’ car with Titan in tow. A gun found in the vehicle matched the shell casing discovered with Reynolds’ body.

Daigneault had a history of felony convictions and was on probation at the time of the murder. He reportedly asked Reynolds to pick him up in Kansas and allowed him to stay with her before the incident.

Prosecutors praised Titan as a “heroic and loyal dog” who helped uncover the truth. Daigneault was sentenced to life with parole eligibility in 30 years. His attorney plans to appeal the verdict.
